Open Call for Artists: “Who cares”, Democracy Month Art Lab

We invite artists working in different media to apply for a short-term art lab taking place as part of Democracy Month in July–August.

We are looking for artists of different mediums to take part in a laboratory that explores democratic values and mechanisms through artistic practice, with a special focus on imagination: the ability to envision how our shared reality could be different, and how individual and collective action can influence the future. Rather than responding to specific political events or divisive public debates, the lab invites artists to explore universal questions of participation, responsibility, dialogue, belonging, and collective agency through artistic practice. We will discuss questions related to democracy, participation, public voice, civic imagination, and the connection between everyday life, civic participation, and our shared future.

We are particularly interested in works that encourage shared reflection across differences and leave participants with a sense of connection, hope, and the belief that collective action can help to imagine and shape our common future.

Following the lab, each selected artist will present an artwork or artistic action that invites audience participation. We are especially interested in works that allow visitors to take part, make choices, leave traces, influence the outcome, or experience, even on a small scale, the feeling that their voice and actions matter.
