Location Sign-Up (Spring 2019)
The following summarizes the volunteering times and activities at each location. Please make sure to read the descriptions and expectations!


Bayless Elementary School (We will have our first session on Monday, February 10th from 3:30-4:30 p.m. )

Description:
- Work with young students on simple, fun, and academically relevant science experiments/projects to enrich their learning experience and provide university students with an opportunity to participate in hands-on instruction.

Expectations:
- Prepare for lesson beforehand with coordinator, arrive on-time, and actively engage with the students present.
Volunteers must be mindful of the fact that they are working with young children.



Smylie Wilson Middle School (Times: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 PM to 5 PM)

Description:
- Lead small groups of middle school students in STAAR prep review with a focus on Mathematics and ELAR (English Language Art and Reading).

Expectations:
- Prepare for lesson beforehand with coordinator and arrive on-time to tutor students at least twice per week.
Volunteers will likely be working in groups with other STEM & Leaf members and divided and should have either a strong grasp of basic mathematics or English Reading/Writing.



Guadalupe-Parkway Sommerville Centers (Times: Wed. 4:30-5:30 p.m. , Fri. 4-5 p.m. )

Description:
- Carry out interactive, STEM-based projects with a group of students grades 1st through 8th to foster curiosity about science from an early age.

Expectations:
- Arrive on-time, and actively engage with the students present.
Volunteers must be mindful of the fact that they are working with young children.



Lubbock High School (Times: Wed. 4-5:30 p.m.)

Description:
- In addition to providing general tutoring in a variety of subjects throughout the year, there will be opportunities in the Spring to preparing review sessions for students planning to take AP/IB exams.

Expectations:
- Arrive on-time, actively inquire if students need help, and make sure students sign-in.
Volunteers should have a good grasp of at least two subject areas (common subjects: Algebra II, Geometry, Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Human Geography, World History, U.S. History, English)



Southcrest Christian School - Robotics (Time: Tue. 4 -5:30 p.m.)

Description:
- Help 6th through 8th grade students build robots and teach fundamental problem-solving skills and basic programming.

Expectations:
- Arrive on-time, and be excited about robotics with the students present.



Estacado High School (Time: 4-5 PM on Thursdays)

Description:
- Provide general tutoring in a variety of subjects. Mostly work with Early College students who may need help in subjects like Physics, Trigonometry, Geology, and English.

Expectations:
- Arrive on-time, and don't be afraid to ask students if they need help on subjects. Be prepared to help with Algebra 1/2 and various writing assignments.
