They are sometimes called the unlovables. A variety of animals that people find incredibly difficult to love. Maybe it is the way they look or how they behave. Maybe it is just misconceptions. Whatever the reason, many people don't like them.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department invites educators of all types to join us as we take a look at two of these hard-to-love animals: bats and vultures. In this unique workshop series, educators will have the opportunity to learn the natural history of these animals in an effort to dispel myths and misunderstandings about them. We will highlight engaging classroom activities that will help you share this information with your students.

There are three workshops in this series. While we encourage teachers to join us for all three, you can participate in the number of workshops that fit your interests and schedule.

The first two opportunities are live webinars that can be viewed from anywhere as long as you have a computer. The Bats Webinar will take place on Tuesday, September 17 and the Vultures Webinar will take place on Tuesday, September 24. Both webinars will begin at 7pm and are expected to last about 1.5 hours.

The final workshop is in-person and is part of the annual Bats and Buzzards at the Bridge program in Wickenburg, AZ. It takes place on Thursday, September 26. It begins at 5pm and will run until 7pm. This is a public event that will allow you to see bats and vultures in the wild while learning from expert representatives from a number of wildlife and outdoor recreation organizations. It is a family-friendly program that will provide an excellent first-hand experience to supplement the information gained during the webinars. Teachers who register through this form and check-in at the educator booth during the event will receive additional education resources.

These workshops are FREE. Registration is required. All registered applicants will receive additional information about the program in a confirmation email.

Participants will receive access to a variety of related educational resources as well as a certificate for continuing education credit. The number of hours will be dependent on the number of programs you participate in. You can earn 1.5 hours for each webinar and 1 hour for the viewing experience.
