About SisTers PGH & the Stonewall Inn

SisTers PGH is a Black and Trans-led nonprofit organization that has been serving transgender and nonbinary communities in Southwestern Pennsylvania for over 15 years through housing, health access, leadership development, and community-centered care.

The Stonewall Inn is SisTers PGH’s newest initiative — a downtown drop-in community center opening this year — created to expand our visible, walk-in, life-saving services for trans and nonbinary people in the Pittsburgh/Allegheny County region.

The Stonewall Inn serves transgender and nonbinary people of all backgrounds and provides food access, showers, clothing, rest space, community support, and connections to care for all who walk through our doors.

While the Stonewall Inn is open to all trans and nonbinary people, SisTers PGH’s housing and long-term support programs prioritize Black and Brown trans and nonbinary people, in alignment with our mission to address the disproportionate impact of homelessness, violence, and systemic exclusion within these communities.

Volunteering at SisTers PGH means supporting a space rooted in dignity, safety, mutual aid, and community-led care.

How Volunteers Are Used at SisTers PGH

Volunteers support multiple areas of SisTers PGH’s work — including the Stonewall Inn, housing programs, community programming, and behavioral health initiatives.

Once onboarded, volunteers may be contacted by SisTers PGH staff and program leads when support is needed in the following areas:

Stonewall Inn Drop-In Center operations
Project T (Transitional Housing)
Monica Roberts Place (Permanent Supportive Housing)
Community Programming & Events
Behavioral Health Groups & Wellness Programming
Outreach, Mutual Aid, and Special Initiatives

Volunteers are never placed into roles without consent, and individual availability and interest areas are always respected.
