Archiving Our Family Stories: The Future of Black Literature

Join us for an interactive discussion about the history of Black literature and its impact on everyday life. We’ll explore how Black writers recover, preserve, and share family stories as acts of memory and resilience, and watch the short film On the Garry by Michael L Clay. Through conversation and reflection, we’ll consider how these personal stories shape our understanding of our personal and cultural history and influence the stories we tell today
An Evening of Stories at Makuu: The Black Cultural Center

Join us for an evening of personal storytelling and community connection exploring the family stories that have shaped who we are. Participants are invited to take part in a guided storytelling exercise, share their own poems, songs, monologues, or personal narratives about family, or simply come to listen. The evening will also feature a special presentation of scenes from Philadelphia Theatre Company’s upcoming production of Wilderness Generation by James Ijames.
