with support from Literature Is ALIVE and the Department of English & DramaFri. Feb 6, 2-4pm: Trade and Self-Publishing Fundamentals
This workshop will act as an introduction for students who are looking into traditionally publishing their work. It will focus on the steps to finding a literary agent and publishing house to secure a book deal. We will also delve into self-publishing and how publishing has changed in the age of social media.
Fri. Feb 13, 2-4pm: World-Building, Genre, and Age Category Fundamentals
This workshop will introduce students to the fundamentals of world-building in their manuscripts. It will also help students learn how one's own personal experiences can tie into their plots, characters, and settings to ultimately infuse authenticity into their world-building. We will also touch on how we blend genres, and how that elevates our worldbuilding.
Fri. Mar 6, 2-4pm: Editing Craft Fundamentals, from First Draft to Final Edits
This workshop will allow students to peer review each other’s work and practice the self-revision process. Students can bring any type of creative work (pre-prepared) at a maximum length of two pages. We will share our editing process, how we work with beta readers, and take students step-by-step through the editorial process that exists at traditional publishing houses.
Meet the Workshop Hosts:
Sarena Nanua and Sasha Nanua are twin sisters living in Ontario, Canada. Born on Diwali ten minutes apart from each other, they grew up loving stories about twins and magic, and began writing books together when they were nine years old. They are graduates of the English and Professional Writing programs at the University of Toronto and are the authors of YA books Sisters of the Snake, Daughters of the Dawn, and their newest release, A Riddle of Thorns. Their first book for middle grade readers, Spirit Service, released in April 2025.
