The Bonny Doon Fire Safe Council (
www.bdfsc.org) has a cadre of volunteers who have completed the National Fire Protection Association's Assessing Structure Ignition Potential from Wildfire training. Three of our cadre recently completed the State Fire Marshal's two day training on Defensible Space Assessment for Qualified Entities, a new, uniform, state-wide rubric for evaluating Home Hardening and Defensible Space, incorporating the latest science and 2024 revisions to section 4291 of the Public Resource Code.
We are now certified in
this new rubric.
Our consultations do not involve enforcement of PRC 4291 in any way. As we have for years, our consults do include home hardening and the 5 feet adjacent to your home, now known as Zone 0, as well as the areas up to 100 feet out from the house or to your property line where it is within 100 feet of your home.
We believe that this will better serve Dooners by giving a preview of what will be required when Zone 0 is included in PRC 4291, in 2025 for new construction, and in 2026 for older construction.
Please note that to sell a property in High or Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, the seller is now required to disclose that fact, and provide certification to the purchaser of a clean LE100 inspection by CAL FIRE within the prior 6 months.
If you live in Bonny Doon and want advice regarding steps toward helping your home to survive a wildfire , please fill out and submit this form to request a consultation. We will contact you by phone or email to arrange a mutually agreeable time for a roughly 90 minute consultation.
