What is Making Herstory?
Making Herstory is a space built with our high school students that focuses on discussing social issues affecting our community and lives. We engage in collective dialogue to discuss ways we can transform our communities individually and togehter.
YOURS is the voice we want to hear.
YOURS is the voice we believe in.
YOURS is the voice that is powerful.
Our Mission Statement
"Making Herstory is a created safe space for south OKC high school women and allies to learn about and discuss feminism, ethnic studies, and their own personal narratives as a form of social and political empowerment."
Who should apply to the Intermediate Program?
We ask members who have completed the Beginner Program OR are continuing onto the Spring Intermediate semester to apply. Be ready to delve deeper into challenging discussions about social conditions and create tangible ideas of change. If you have not completed the Beginner Program, BUT feel like you already possess a strong knowledge about our topics, then we encourage you to apply to the Intermediate Program.
Topics in this workshop can include (but are not limited to):
• Disabilities Rights Movement
• Our Personal Narratives through Creative Outlets:
Spoken Word, Tree of Life, etc.
• Formation of Community Action Plans
• Key Social Justice Terms:
Institutional Racism, Intersectionality, Social Constructs, etc.
• Women of Color Feminism
• LGBTQ Rights Movements
We ask for a firm commitment from all high school students in Making HerStory. Our space relies primarily on building from one discussion to the next. We believe our members will benefit most from regular attendance and participation.
In addition, we expect a commitment to active participation in discussions by listening, contributing, and being on time. We ask you to commit to 4 weeks in the Making Herstory space. If after those 4 weeks, you do not feel benefited by our programs then no worries - you won’t be further committed.
If selected, you will receive notification via email.
We are so looking forward to meeting you, hearing your thoughts, and growing with you through this process!
