SCOTTISH SHELF MODEL (SSM) AND OUTPUTS USER AGREEMENT
General conditions:

1 - Users of SSM model output should be aware of the generic FVCOM user agreement as some conditions apply to model output, as well. Please see http://fvcom.smast.umassd.edu/FVCOM/Source/agreement.htm

2 - Changed or extended intended use of the supplied model or model output should be confirmed and agreed by MSS. Please contact MSS using sswrs@gov.scot

3 - MSS and Scottish Government (and the model developers under contract) will be acknowledged for developing, funding and supplying the SSM, as relevant. When using the SSW-RS the National Oceanography Centre and Mercator Ocean should also be acknowledged. Depending on the use of the model or model output on any publication, co-authorship by Marine Scotland Science, National Oceanography Centre staff and/or contractors as relevant may be appropriate and should be discussed.

4 - When using any of these products, please cite the relevant DOI and any relevant publications.

Conditions related to model code, setup, scripts and forcing data only:

5 - We will not distribute the FVCOM code and potential users would have to acquire this from the
University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth and abide by their license conditions.

6 – We will not supply any dataset that is subject to license conditions unless the original owner of the data has given explicit authorisation (we can provide a list of relevant data and any licensing constraints associated with them).

7 - We will supply any data, scripts, code, input and output files, etc. "as is" and in good faith but accept no liability for their subsequent use.

8 - We will license the SSM for specific uses (individual "projects"), as identified in the license agreement, and may not be used for activities which go beyond the authorised use.  Any further uses would have to be subject to a new agreement.

9 - Any code, setup, scripts, forcing data, etc. supplied cannot be passed in full or partially to 3rd parties without our explicit consent and any 3rd party will have to abide explicitly by the same terms and conditions. Please ask the third party to register separately.

10 - In the spirit of maintaining and developing the SSM as a community model, we request that any model development or implementation based on the SSM, including but not restricted to different time periods, changes in resolution, new model runs, implementation of new modules, etc. will be made available to Marine Scotland Science to be added to the common pool that can be further distributed under the current agreement. Reasonable temporary exceptions will be granted, e.g. to allow completion of research and publication of results.

11 - We can request from the users any relevant validation and quality control criteria that would be reasonably expected when contributing their model development or implementation.

This agreement will apply to the use of the SSM and its outputs for non-commercial(*) scientific research.  Other potential uses (e.g. commercial) may be subject to additional conditions that would need to be cleared with the FVCOM development team at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.
