School Board Community Engagement Session: Using Restorative Circles to Identify SSP’s Core Values (Dec. 3, 2019)
The South St. Paul School Board invites YOU to a special engagement event focused on building and celebrating the South St. Paul community
As part of its vision to enhance relationships with all members of the South St. Paul Public Schools (SSPPS) community, the SSP School Board plans to host a series of community engagement sessions throughout the year. The focus of these sessions is to offer opportunities for district residents to get to know the school board and one another outside of the formal school board meeting setting through a variety of engagement methods and conversations.
The SSP School Board is pleased to announce its first community engagement session on Tuesday, Dec. 3
SSP SCHOOL BOARD COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SESSION: Using Restorative Circles to Identify SSP’s Core Values
Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019
SSP Secondary School, Media Center Classroom
This session will be facilitated by Dr. Raj Sethuraju, assistant professor in the School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice at Metro State University. The conversation will utilize the restorative circles method in an effort to explore common values, develop relationships and build community within South St. Paul.
WHAT ARE RESTORATIVE CIRCLES?
A circle is a versatile restorative practice that can be used proactively to develop relationships and build community, or it can be used reactively to respond to wrongdoing, conflicts and problems. Circles give people an opportunity to speak and listen to one another in an atmosphere of safety, decorum and equality.
WHY SHOULD I ATTEND?
Through participation in this session, attendees will not only help shape build relationships with the school board and their neighbors, but they will also gain a useful strategy that can help them prepare for future actions or decisions, or to navigate challenging conversations.
