Excellence in Engineering Communications Summer 2022
This 4 week class meets twice a week. The class meets in-person on Tuesdays and on Zoom on Thursdays from 11am-12:30pm. The class dates are August 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 & Sept 1.
You must attend all eight classes in order to receive the certificate of completion at the end of the program.
Specifically for engineers, this class shows you how to take your research and craft it into a compelling presentation to use during poster talks, conferences, and job interviews. You will learn essential writing tools when transforming your research paper into a captivating speech. Learn the performance techniques actors use to overcome nerves, command a stage, have vocal variety, and connect to an audience. By the end of the program you will feel confident creating a presentation that will grab people’s attention while clearly articulating your research.
The instructor, Bri McWhorter, is the Founder and CEO of the communications company, Activate to Captivate. She teaches various communication workshops across the UC Irvine campus. She has worked with Fortune 500 companies, TEDx events and various campuses across the UC system. She has an MFA in Acting from UC Irvine and a BA in Theater from UC Berkeley.
