Our internship program is currently operating as a remote program. Undergraduate internships introduce participants to nonprofit management and infrastructure. Positions focus on supporting our research, communications, and grants development goals.

We encourage graduate students to apply for the Independent Research and Travel Internship.

Social Media Coordinator and Community Manager Internship

Description: The Social Media Coordinator and Community Manager is responsible for assisting the ED with the Fall 2022 social media strategy. This includes coordinating the posting calendar, community management of Instagram and Facebook, and collaborating with other media interns to create copy, content and design.  

During this internship, the Intern will learn about non-profit management, international development, and poverty alleviation strategies.

Key Tasks: Manage and maintain social media plan Research related organizations to increase engagement Coordination with international staff on case studies, photography, and print media Introduction to non-profit management and international development.

Time Commitment: 10 hours per week, one semester.  Spanish familiarity desired. This is an unpaid position internship.

Location: Remote

Content Creator Internship

Description: The Content Creator Intern coordinates and uses case studies and existing video interviews to create blogs, static posts and audiovisual posts on a variety of platforms.. 

Position requirements:  Knowledge and experience with social media marketing and trends. Functional level of Spanish language and cross cultural skills.

Key Tasks: Work with ED to continue development of content strategy and messaging. Collaborate  with international staff to develop new audiovisual content. Write blogs and copy

Time Commitment: 10 hours per week, one semester.  Spanish familiarity desired.  This is an unpaid position internship.

Graphic Design Internship

Description: The Graphic Design Intern is responsible for supporting ViviendasLeón’s executive team and social media interns on their graphic design needs. During this internship, the Graphic Design Intern will learn about non-profit management, international development, and poverty alleviation.

Location: Remote

Grants Research and Development Internship

Description: The Grants research and development Intern is responsible for supporting ViviendasLeón’s executive team on their ongoing grants development goals. The Intern will learn research strategies and use of online grants research platforms to find funding sources relevant to the work of the organization. 

In coordination with the executive director, the intern will learn about granting foundation analysis, recording and ranking.  And will prepare applications to select foundations for funding. During this internship, the Intern will learn about non-profit management, international development, and poverty alleviation.

Time Commitment: 10 hours per week, one semester. This is an unpaid position internship.

Location: Remote

International Development Research Internship

Description: The ID Research Internship supports the ongoing research goals of ViviendasLeon.  The Intern will investigate current international development literature, its trends, impacts, and how ViviendasLeón can incorporate ideas from this large field. 

The Intern will also pursue their own independent research project to providing insight into potential new programs, or growth in new areas. During this internship, the Research Intern will learn about non-profit management, international development, and poverty alleviation.

Time Commitment: 10 hours per week, one semester.  This is an unpaid internship.

Location: Remote

Independent Research and Travel Internship

Description: This is an independent research project in collaboration with the intern, ViviendasLeon and a faculty member to develop a research proposal culminating in a research paper and/or travel to Guatemala to carry out the research project.  Students are required to work with a faculty advisor to develop the proposal and gain approval from the university.

If the intern demonstrates an interest in travel to carry out research, they must also apply for funding for the project from the university or other funding sources, and agree to travel in June for a one to two week research internship.

Interested students need to apply by writing a one page draft proposal and send it to ViviendasLeon no later than October 15, 2022.  Proposals must include the name of a faculty advisor, purpose of the research proposal and relevance to the development work of ViviendasLeon. Time Commitment: 10 hours per week, one semester.  This is an unpaid internship.
