The Carl D. Perkins Act of 2006 as promulgated federal funding in a competitive grant award to support Career & Technical Education (CTE) at the post-secondary levels. From the amounts made available under subsection (a)(1) to carry out this subsection, an eligible agency may award grants to eligible recipients for career and technical education activities described in section 135 in -
(1) rural areas;
(2) areas with high percentages of career and technical education students; and
(3) areas with high numbers of career and technical education students.
This competitive grant may be used to support innovative CTE initiatives at the post-secondary level, specifically those that do the following:
1) develop more comprehensive and robust career pathways leading to viable career training options for students;
2) provide work-based learning experiences for students that are in industries closely related to CTE pathways;
3) develop meaningful partnerships between institutions and business/industry representatives.
In order to be eligible for the grant, post-secondary applicants must have at least one formal partnership established with business or industry (this may include a registered apprenticeship). Preference will be given to applications that include their local Nex Gen partnership. For information on how to establish a formal apprenticeship program contact Michael Broad at

THE GRANT MAY NOT BE USED TO PURCHASE FOOD AND/OR BEVERAGES, USED FOR CAR RENTAL/GAS REIMBURSEMENT or any other unallowable uses of funds under the Carl D. Perkins Act of 2006. Applications will be reviewed and scored by a grant review committee, and amounts awarded will be equal to or less than $16,500 per applicant. There will be 2 grants awarded. This application will be open for submission until December 1, 2023.
Awarded applicants will be notified no later than December 15, 2023. All funds must be expended by June 30, 2024. WDE must receive the invoices no later than September 30, 2024. Grant funds are not available until the final signature is affixed to the Attorney General approved Grant Agreement. Previous G
rantees that failed to meet all requirements of the award are not eligible to applyI understand that if I fail to follow my school district or community college's grant application policies that my school district or community college may choose not to accept the grant funding.
1. Project Narrative (does the overview thoroughly outlines the project and how it will create, implement and sustain itself) 0-15 points
2. Innovation and Improvement (explanation of the elements of the innovative strategies regarding the evidence-based improvement and effectiveness of student outcomes and also describe the alignment with business/industry) 0-40 points
3. Implementation Plan (does the plan thoroughly describe action steps, identified resources, timeline, responsible individual(s), and resulting in evidence of success) 0-15 points
4. Evaluation (was there an explanation of evaluation process showing improvement of effectiveness and outcomes) 0-15 points
5. Budget Narrative (does the project budget narrative describe all project costs and/or expenditures) 0-15 points
