Washtenaw County 2020 Census Mini Grant Competition
The Washtenaw County Complete Counts Commission is excited to announce Mini-Grants to support ideas, events, projects and outreach to traditionally under-counted groups.
Funding is available to community groups, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood associations, local businesses, government agencies, libraries and even individuals who need some financial support to help increase census participation in Washtenaw County.
Preference will be given to projects that prioritize under-counted populations, (e.g., black and brown communities, renters, low income households, seniors, youth, immigrant populations, non-English speakers, etc).
Mini-grant requests up to $500 are processed most easily through Washtenaw County's procurement process. That said, requests can exceed $500 but must demonstrate why the resulting impact is worth additional investment.
Sample projects include (but are not limited to):
- promotional materials (e.g., flyers, videos) for specific populations, including translation when needed
- Hosting an informational event about the importance of the census (e.g., reserving a room, paying speakers)
- Printing general census materials to provide to clients, neighbors
- Purchasing tablets or phones that can be made available for the public to complete the census
- Hosting a census-taking event where people take the census together
Applications will be reviewed and funds granted on a rolling basis until the funds are depleted. Proposals will be evaluated based on the proposals impact on increasing census participation in Washtenaw County for under-counted populations, and project feasibility.
