VietRISE 2023 Tự Lực School for Organizing Interest Form
We are thrilled to announce our the launch of our new 12-week after-school youth program, Tự Lực School for Organizing!

VietRISE’s
Tự Lực School for Organizing is a 12-week after-school program designed for Vietnamese American youth aged 14-18 who are interested in deepening their understanding of social justice, activism, and community organizing. Through workshops, discussions, and hands-on activities, participants will learn more about power structures, develop leadership skills, and discuss Vietnamese identity and community activism. This program focuses on civic engagement, highlights Vietnamese American history, and strengthen participants' connections to their cultural identity through language and cultural activities. Additionally, we provide three paid civic engagement internships in the Fall for youth who have completed the 12-week program.

Applications open in April for this 12-week opportunity to learn more about Vietnamese and Little Saigon culture and history and to learn what it takes to organize your community for social justice.

By filling out this interest form, you agree to VietRISE staff reaching out to you to let you know more about the program details and to send you the application once it launches.

About VietRISE
Mission
VietRISE advances social justice and builds power with working-class Vietnamese and immigrant communities in Orange County. We build leadership and create systemic change through organizing, narrative change, cultural empowerment, and civic engagement.

History
In 2018, VietRISE was founded with the mission to empower Orange County’s working class Vietnamese and immigrant community by providing a central platform for community organizing, civic engagement, and social and cultural transformation deeply rooted in the principles of social justice. VietRISE’s first efforts toward movement building in the Vietnamese immigrant community occurred during the local movement to Defend Sanctuary in OC, in which our organization played a pivotal role in defending CA’s sanctuary law, the VALUES Act, against anti-immigrant lawmakers and white supremacist groups. Since then, VietRISE has continued to strengthen local community power by developing the leadership of youth, immigrants, and second-generation Vietnamese Americans, empowering them to serve as activists, advocates, and organizers dedicated to collectively driving systemic change and social justice in Orange County.

Vision
We envision an Orange County that is home to a thriving movement of Vietnamese people who are culturally empowered and work in solidarity with others for social and economic justice, ensuring that every individual is free from systemic injustice and the threat of displacement, and can lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.
