Thank you for your interest in writing for the SWCC Blog. Writing for the Blog is a great opportunity to gain some experience producing content for a digital platform. Only SWCC members can join the Blog Team, but guest writers don't need to have a SWCC membership.

This General Pitching Form is for the SciComm News, Science Explained or Commentary/Op-Ed categories. If you would like to submit a pitch for a member story, please use our Member Story Pitch Form. If you're having trouble coming up with a pitch, check out our SWCC Blog Pitch Request Form for some curated pitches from our Editor.

Blog Writer Acknowledgement
We recognize that writing a post for the SWCC blog is a time commitment, for both the writer and the Blog Team. While the Blog Team wants to be mindful of a writer's prior personal and professional commitments, the writer should aim to get their piece out in a timely manner. This is also to ensure that their blog post will still be relevant when it is published. The anticipated writing period from draft commencement (not including the pitching period) should be approximately 2 months (60 days).

If the writer thinks they might need more time, they should notify the Blog Team as soon as is possible. They can request that their article is paused, but this can only be done sparingly.

If the following occurs, it is at the Blog Team's discretion if the article continues:
  • If the production window has exceeded three months.
  • If the writer is excessively rewriting the article between edits or seems unsure about the content.
  • If the writer refuses to include key elements of their article, such as their sources or an expert voice (where necessary).
  • If the writer uses insensitive or inappropriate language in their article or towards the Blog Team.
  • If the writer ghosts the Blog Team (suddenly stops replying to emails without explanation for an extended period of time) or continuously delays submission dates.
As the writer of this article, I accept the terms above and agree to complete my article within a timely manner.
