Extract from Development Description:
Up to 7 no. wind turbines with an overall blade tip height of up to 178.5 metres and all associated foundations and hard-standing areas;

…4 no. battery storage containers, 1 no. control building with welfare facilities, associated electrical plant and equipment,.

 
We, the undersigned residents of the community of Ballingeary and surrounding area wish to object to the above-referenced application as follows .
 

1: The current application relates to a previous wind farm site which was required to be fully restored to wilderness status after decommissioning as required by previous planning consent. This has not happened.
 
2: The height of the proposed windmills means that the visual intrusion will be seen from miles around. The loss of visual amenity is out of all proportion to the amount of carbon that will be removed from the national carbon footprint.
 
3: The battery storage containers will inevitably bring the potential risk of fire and toxic smoke downwind. In that eventuality this community will be directly affected, (since the prevailing winds are from the west). The application does not provide detail of the battery type or of the containment measures to be put in place for the purposes of emissions management in the event of a battery fire, or any other form of safety case related to these high capacity batteries and their containers.
 
In conclusion, we feel that this application should be refused for the three reasons given, but in addition because this community has already had more than its fair share of wind farms.
