Sign the Fight for Asylum Rights Pledge

This is a form for organisations, faith groups, charities, community groups, businesses, trade unions and others, as well as individuals, to sign the pledge to fight for asylum rights (FAR) in the UK.

This pledge was drafted by Asylum Matters and Refugee Action, in partnership with a number of organisations working on asylum and refugee issues across the UK, and was formerly known as the 'Fight the Anti-Refugee Laws' pledge, in response to increasingly hostile legislation. The statement and its signatories are hosted on the website https://fighttheantirefugeelaws.org/

Following the 2024 General Election, over 300 organisations and over 500 individuals (many being pledge signatories) wrote to the incoming Prime Minister to set out a blueprint for an asylum system that protects rather than punishes people seeking safety. 

Since then, hostile anti-refugee rhetoric, policies and practices have continued, and the fight for a fair, humane and compassionate refugee protection system goes on. The FAR pledge is a commitment to stand against the cruelty, border violence, criminalisation and dehumanisation faced by people seeking sanctuary, and champion a system where people seeking protection are treated with dignity and respect.

We will be in touch with signatories to the pledge periodically to update you on the Fight for Asylum Rights campaign, and invite you to opt into related campaigning initiatives.

“We believe that people seeking protection from war and persecution should be welcomed and that everyone's claim for asylum should be treated equally and fairly. 

"We believe that the UK should offer sanctuary to those who need it. That’s why we’re taking a stand for asylum rights. We pledge to:

  • Defend the right to seek safety from war and persecution in the UK
  • Speak out against attempts to criminalise and punish those who make their own way to safety
  • Challenge the anti-refugee laws, policies and rhetoric which risk the lives and well-being of people 
  • Work towards a refugee protection system that treats all people with dignity and compassion."
