PERMANENT JEWELRY SERVICE           Book An Appointment

What is Permanent Jewelry?

Permanent Jewelry is better defined as 'Claspless Jewelry' in that each piece is custom fit and welded around the body -  but only 'permanent' until you decide to remove it. We always tell our Permanent Jewelry clients that you can always remove the piece if you need to, or want to - and have it welded on again or add a clasp at any time to make it a conventional piece of jewelry.

What are the chains made of?

Our standard chains are made of sterling silver, 14k gold filled, or solid 14k -  meaning they are durable for everyday wear and can last a lifetime.

While supplies last for the season, we also have gold plated enamel chains. These chains have a higher likelihood of tarnishing or chipping due to the material, but are offered at a lower price point and are still quite popular.  We also have some options of stainless steel chains, so whatever you’d like!

What is gold - filled?

Gold-filled jewelry is made by mechanically bonding solid gold to a base metal, often sterling silver or brass. The gold layer is significant, and is permanently bonded to the base metal with pressure and intense heat. Because of this permanence, you won’t get any flaking or peeling. If taken care of, gold-filled jewelry can last as long as solid gold.

 Care and cleaning

Your permanent pieces may require cleaning/polishing from time to time; we recommend a gentle scrub with blue Dawn dish soap, or Lavish cleaner offered by Dally + Toil, LLC and soft brush to remove any product build up that may accumulate.

How do I remove the chain?

If you need to remove the chain for any reason, you can simply use a pair of fingernail clippers, or scissors to cut the jump ring. We do offer re-welding for a $15 fee. Add a clasp at any time for $10.

I want one, but don't want it welded - what can I do?

We are happy to make a custom length and bespoke chain bracelet, necklace or anklet for anyone that wants a piece with the option to remove. We think this is a really great option to find a gorgeous chain for that pendant you've been needing the right chain for, or perfecting your layering game. A quarter inch or more makes all the difference in sizing, why be limited to stock length chains?

Add $10 for any clasped piece, and know that all links are still welded for a secure and polished look. If you find that you never take it off anyway, come in and have it welded. You can always change your mind and go your own way!

What if my chain breaks?

Our chains are made of high-quality materials meant to resist everyday wear and tear, yet dainty enough to come off for safety's sake. Permanent jewelry does not mean indestructible jewelry, it just means the piece is clasp-less. Any piece of jewelry is susceptible to damage when met with opposing force. If your piece gets snagged or it breaks, we will do our best to repair it for you. Please note: we do not replace, reimburse or refund for lost chains.

Do you repair permanent pieces purchased elsewhere?

In most cases, yes. We charge a $15 repair fee. We carefully select the chains we offer for quality and appropriate use for permanent jewelry, therefore we may decline to repair a piece that we deem too thin or too thick to safely attach permanently. We may also decline to repair stainless steel or plated enamel pieces purchased elsewhere. Feel free to phone first and/or email an image of the desired repair request to: info@dallyandtoil.com for approval before booking a repair appointment.

Is there a required age? Short answer - YES!

Anyone 18 and older is welcome to get a permanent piece. We require anyone ages 12 - 17 to have a parent or guardian present. We do not offer permanent pieces to children under the age of 12.

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act outlines strict regulations with regard to jewelry for children. Among many other regulations, the Consumer Product Safety Commission recognizes ASTM F2923 'Standard Specification for Consumer Product Safety for Children's Jewelry' as an industry best practice. Notably, Toxicity Specifications relating to material contents (poisonous mystery metal) and Mechanical Specifications (risk of tissue damage, strangulation etc.) regarding the physical characteristics of jewelry that can pose risk of injury to children.

Simply put, the CPSIA protects children from poisonous mystery metal and bodily harm from poorly made goods. We purchase from trusted suppliers that do provide Safety Data Sheets for materials we use, rest assured - the quality of our materials is not at risk of non-compliance. However, we consider ourselves to operate with abundance of common sense and caution - so it’s easy to say 'no' to Permanent Jewelry for kids under the age of 12.

We can make a custom fit bracelet for anyone under 12, and the clasp will be included in the price!

As an aside, we reserve the right to decline permanent piece service to anyone, for any reason.

Can I go through airport security?

Yes! TSA doesn’t require you to remove fine jewelry when going through security. You should have no problem taking your jewelry along with you on all your travel adventures.

Can I wear it in the shower, pool, ocean, etc.?

Of course - That's the fun of jewelry you never have to take off! Our chains are meant to go through all of life’s fun adventures with you.

We have found that sterling styles are prone to oxidation after exposure to pools or hot tubs that are improperly chemically balanced. A gentle wipe with a polishing cloth, or quick scrub with a baking soda/water paste and soft brush is all that is required to restore the original sterling shine.

Can I get more than one piece during my appointment?

Our chains are beautiful solo or stacked. We are happy to custom-fit as many jewelry pieces as you wish. Please plan on one (15 - minute) appointment per piece, as considering how the pieces layer and move on the body takes a few minutes.

If you are booking for multiple people, each person needs their own time slot.

Do you host private events?

Sure! We love hosting  parties and offer incentives to groups of 10+ who book a party.

How long does the welding process take?

We anticipate 15 - minute slots to allow time to custom fit the chain to your wrist, then use a specialized welding machine to weld the bracelet in seconds. It is simple, fast, painless, and safe.

Who should not get Permanent Jewelry?

We recommend anyone with a pacemaker, or history of allergy to nickel or precious metals not get a permanent piece.

What happens if I need an MRI or X-ray?

We recommend consulting your doctor or imaging technician for guidance. If removing the jewelry is required, we do offer re-welding once for free and any additional time for a $15 fee
