Social Media Guidelines for PEF/EVSC Summer Musical

Using social media academically is an extension of your school classroom environment. When using social media during the Summer Musical Project and discussing the Summer Musical experience, treat the platform as a digital extension of your summer classroom – the same rules apply during the summer project, as they do during the regular school year. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. Remember that? Same applies to ranting on social media: If you wouldn’t want Grandma to read it, then you probably shouldn’t say / type it.

People of all ages sometimes act differently on social media than they would “face-to-face”, assuming they are not accountable for their actions since they are typing instead of speaking directly to someone. In fact, because of the nature of the digital world, the responsibility is even more significant when communicating online. Never assume access to your comments is limited to the addressees posted.

Think and pause before posting. Once a comment is posted online, it cannot be retracted.  It may seem funny or harmless when posting, but it could be perceived as hurtful or offensive.  As guidance, take a few extra minutes to think about whether a post could be seen as cruel, humiliating, mean, or nasty;  or whether it could negatively affect a future opportunity. For example, if an aggressive or inflammatory comment online is made due to angry spontaneity, you may be damaging your own digital footprint which could impair employment opportunities. Remember an online post is never completely deleted, so THINK before you post:  Is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind?

This summer, we ask that all interactions with the staff, cast, crew, orchestra and parents be respectful, courteous, and considerate; face to face and on social media. If it is deemed by staff that there have been infractions of these guidelines, we (PEF/EVSC Directors), reserve the right to dismiss a student from the production.
