The masterclass consists of a two-day workshop. It is based on Evelin’s latest creation Danca Doente (Sick Dance) and the material developed during its research period, as well as the approaches, practices and procedures discovered in its creation process. The masterclass focuses on how to create something from a research, not as a reconstruction or a representation of it, but in a ghostly matter, letting it appear as a spectrum that insistently haunts and defines the creation.
From Teresina to Tohoku: The Reinvention of a (dancing) BodyDanca Doente is the latest piece by Marcelo Evelin/Demolition Incorporada, presented at Spring Performing Arts Festival 2017. Dance Doente takes as departure point the universe of Japanese choreographer Hijikata Tatsumi (1928-1986), the creator of Butoh, the dance of darkness. Hijikata’s work dwells with death and sickness, subversion and instability, and eroticism and criminality. He approached dance as a reinvention of the body, not only as form but as political positioning in the world, which has played an important role for the creation of Danca Doente.
Encounters of participants with Evelin will happen on a level of sharing rather than teaching, developing further questions and common interests rather than obtaining conclusions, and will combine conceptual dialogue and exchange of ideas with physical practice and investigation on performativity.
