The Celebrating Black Geographers anthology was inspired by the report titled Black Geographers in Institutions of Higher Education in the United States: Where They Are and a Selected Bibliography of Their Works, published in 2003 by Joe T. Darden and Lucia Terra. This anthology of Black Geographers is an expansion of the previous report, birthed out of the necessity to have a publicly available single source database that chronicles the contributions of Black Geographers to the discipline of Geography. This collection includes photographs, biographies, and interesting facts. The project will have three cohorts spanning 1900-2000, 2001-2010, and 2011-2020.
Use this form to submit information about persons who should be included in the Celebrating Black Geographers anthology. Black geographers are teachers, lecturers, or professors of African American, Black/African descent (i.e. African, Afro Latino, Afro Caribbean) and all members of the African Diaspora, who possess advanced degrees in geography, and who have a demonstrated track record of teaching, research, or practice in the discipline of Geography. Please ensure your submission meets the aforementioned criteria. All information submitted will be vetted for accuracy before the individual will appear on the website.
We are currently seeking submissions for cohort three 2011-2020. But gladly accept those who have not been included in prior cohorts.
Links to the previous two cohorts are here. Before submitting please ensure they have not already been included.
