This Spring, Students for Justice in Palestine at UCSB will be calling on Associated Students to divest from companies profiting from human rights abuse in Israel/Palestine. This process requires a resolution which usually is drafted behind closed doors. However, we believe that divestment is a community effort. Therefore, we are making the creation of this resolution a community-driven process to maximize and empower student voices.

We have divided the resolution into three different sections (the introduction, core, and closing). In each section, we have our proposed language as well as guidelines for your suggestions. We are looking forward from hearing your input!

SJP as an organization is ultimately responsible for the resolution and will therefore make the final decisions on which input to include and how to include it; however, we want to do the maximum responses possible and to be as responsive and inclusive of community input. So please feel free to make a suggestion!
Guidelines
1. As this resolution is heard by the Associated Students of UCSB, we will only be considering feedback from UCSB students.
2. The resolution is about divesting from companies that violate human rights. Therefore, suggestions should not oppose human rights or support their continued violation.
3. We don’t feel that, as college students, it is our place to dictate political solutions to people living under conditions that we do not experience. While the resolution may be supported by people who support a variety of political solutions to the occupation, AS is not in a position to credibly endorse these solutions.
