After School STEM Academy Winter Quarter
Join SEAW and the Washington Alliance for Better Schools (WABS) to share our industry experience and passion for design with elementary and middle school students throughout the Puget Sound Area. The After School STEM Academy is an engaging, hands-on STEM learning opportunity for students that builds 21st Century skills and awareness of STEM careers and career pathways.

Take a look at this video to see what volunteering in a classroom looks like: http://www.wabsalliance.org/expanded-learning/

The curriculum for the winter quarter are as follows:
4th-5th Grade: Slippery Slope: Engineering an Avalanche Protection System
6th -8th Grade: Go Fish: Engineering Prosthetic Tails - Biomedical Engineering

No experience in the subject matter is necessary. WABS provides us with detailed instructions and scripts for all six lessons as well as all the materials needed. Several school districts along the Puget Sound participate in this program so it is likely that you can be matched with a school that is convenient for you. SEAW volunteers will ideally be paired together to encourage carpooling and make the experience a great way to network as well. If we can't pair you with a school in the area that works for you, there is no obligation and we can try again in the Spring.

The volunteer commitment is 1hr/week for 6 weeks starting on the week of January 13th. Sessions start at either 3pm or 4pm. Please direct any questions to gmazzotti@brwncald.com
