BIKES ONboard

Bike Count & Bump Incident Report

Purpose: To collect bike counts to provide justification to Caltrain for more bike capacity where needed. This count is being conducted by bicyclists for bicyclists. Please count accurately.

Instructions:
1 To keep the count simple, we ask that you count bikes at one station of your choice. No need to count at every station.
2 Please fill in the fields below.
3 If there are two bike cars, then fill in counts for your bike car only.
4 Count total bikes in the bike car, including folding bikes (both folded and unfolded).
5 If you don't know or aren't sure about a field, then leave blank.
6 When finished, click the "Submit" button at the bottom.

Explanation:
1 Gallery cars are the single door, old-style cars. Bombardier cars are the newer cars, primarily used for baby bullet trains.
2 To determine if there are two bike cars, ask the conductor. Alternatively, check the black number next to the north end bike car door. If it is 4005, 4010, 4017, 4020, 4021, 4024, and 4026 (for gallery cars) or 114 and 115 (for Bombardier cars), then there are probably two bike cars. Confirm by checking for the mirror sticking out of the bike car closer to the engine.
