The Code It! Challenge is FREE and open to all D65 students and Evanston residents in grades 5th – 8th.

You have complete freedom to design and code any sort of game you can imagine using MakeCode Arcade.
  --  Create an adventure game where you rescue a trapped animal on a cliff.
  --  Build a classic jumping platformer game where you avoid flying sharks.
  --  Plant the most trees to save the planet from pollution monsters.

Whatever game you make, you just need to need include core game elements and submit it before April 6th. The more game elements you include, the better your chances to win the best prizes.

The citywide showcase where students can explore the art and science of coding.

You are not alone--you have help!!!

    --  We have a tutorial for each gaming element on our YouTube Code It! Challenge Playlist. Learn how to animate your character, design a custom level, and how to code a jumping mechanic.
    --  Yo can also attend in-person help sessions on Thursday after school and on Wednesdays virtually. Join to us to see how you can take these individual gaming elements and turn them into a full game.

El Desafío de Codificación está abierto a todos los estudiantes del D65 y residentes de Evanston en los grados 5º a 8º.

Este es un programa gratuito.

Los estudiantes tienen total libertad para diseñar y codificar cualquier tipo de juego que puedan imaginar usando MakeCode Arcade.
  - Crea un juego de aventuras en el que rescatas a un animal atrapado en un acantilado.
  - Construye un clásico juego de plataformas de saltos en el que evitas a los tiburones voladores.
  - Planta la mayor cantidad de árboles para salvar al planeta de los monstruos de la contaminación.

Independientemente del juego que hagas, solo debes incluir elementos básicos del juego y enviarlo antes del 6 de abril. Cuantos más elementos del juego incluya, mayores serán sus posibilidades de ganar los mejores premios.

    - Tenemos un tutorial para cada elemento de juego en nuestra lista de reproducción Desafío de Codificación de YouTube. Aprende a animar a tu personaje, a diseñar un nivel personalizado y a codificar una mecánica de salto.

Please check thee workshops that your child is able to attend and is a priority.  Typically, no more than three workshops are available for each student.
For underrepresented students in STEM (those who identify as Black, LatinX, Indigenous American and/or female), sign-up for our free Saturday Workshop in the Evanston Public Library Maker Space at 1703 Orrington Street.   You'll be paired with a Northwestern Engineering student to design and code your video game!  Starts Saturday Feb. 8 from 10:00AM - 12:00PM. Pizza Lunch included.  Regular weekly attendance required.
