What is Girlvolution?Girlvolution is a youth-led, social justice conference produced by Powerful Voices. We build community through food, spoken word, art, and music by youth, and interactive workshops on social justice issues developed and facilitated by girls and youth under . Alumna from our programs serve as the Emcee to guide and facilitate conversation among participants. A community partners resource fair with as many as 25 youth and family serving organizations, as well as interactive media (photo and video) opportunities, rounds out the day. As many as 300 youth and adults have participated in Girlvolution in the past.
How can I get involved?Girlvolution Crew (February - April) - Join a group of 6-10 volunteers, staff and interns to lead the production of our largest community engagement event of the year. Help needed with: Venue Design and Decoration, Graphic Design, Marketing and Promotion, Food and In-Kind Donation Procurement, and Sound and Technical Assistance. Team meetings on the following Wednesdays,Feb 1, Feb 22, Mar 8, Mar 29, and Apr 12. Commitment of 5-10 hours/mo.
Girlvolution Internships (February- April) - Designed for high school seniors, college students, recent college grads or any young person looking for an unpaid opportunity to gain non-profit work experience. Last year 3 interns coordinated the resource fair, youth performance showcase and promotional materials. Email Layla Taylor for a job description.
Dress Rehearsals (April 1, 12-4pm) - Listen and provide feedback to girls from our ActiveVistas employment program as they prepare their interactive workshops for audiences of 50+ people.
Set-Up Crew (April 21, 6-10pm) - Bring your muscle and your brains to help transform the Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club into the Girlvolution conference headquarters.
Girlvolution 2017 (April 22, 9:30-4pm, Various shifts available) - It will take a total of over 120 volunteers to bring this event to hundreds of youth and allies. Bring your powerful self and support girl justice in action!
Community Resource Fair (April 22 10-4pm) - Free to host a table! Bring your youth and family serving, justice based services and programs to hundreds of youth and their allies.
Donate (Ongoing) - We are always looking for photographers, graphic designers, printers, videographers, youth DJs and performers + donations of food, drinks and more! Share your resources, community connections and in-kind donations to draw youth and their allies from all over WA state.
