Public versus Private Workshops Hosts *
An organization has two options to host a workshop, either in a private format or a public one, virtual or in-person.

For a PRIVATE workshop, a host is required to enroll a minimum of 12 participants. The list of students' names and email addresses must be provided to XcelliUm at least two weeks before the start of the workshop. The Host will receive a free seat for one attendee and a complementary 8 hour virtual gap analysis to survey its alignment with the Shingo Model Principles and its maturity on the Lean Journey. In addition to a report that outlines the roadmap for improvement.
For a PUBLIC workshop, a Host will authorize people from outside its organization to attend the workshop in addition to its employees. The host will receive up to 3 free seats for attendees from his organization and will host overall 30 attendees (if event is virtual) and up to 25 attendees (if event is in-person).
In both formats, virtual and in-person, the host organization of public workshops will have the possibility to provide an overview of its work to participants to help them understand the company. This also gives the host the possibility to showcase the work done on Lean.
Logistics & Restrictions *
This part addresses workshop timing, arrangements, and logistics.
The preferred start and end timing for a workshop are 8am to 4pm (GMT +2) to accommodate attendees from regions in different time zones.

All workshops require visits to the "Gemba" of the facility to "Go & See", where attendees can observe in group and report back some improvements to the host organization. An additional added value from hosting a Shingo Workshop.

An in-person workshop meeting room should be large enough for 25 attendees and be comfortable for group-based work and without interruptions. Ideally set with tables for groups of 4-6 people each.

If there are any company restrictions that we need to be aware of prior to arriving on site (PPE, H&S, passes etc.) please let us know.
Sound, Internet, Supplies and Food & Beverage *
For in-person workshops:
  • The room needs to have a projector that connects to the instructor laptop with sound capabilities. In case the instructor cannot use his laptop for security reasons, there should be a possibility to use a USB for an onsite computer equipped with Quick Time Player software.
  • Participants should benefit from WIFI access during lunch and breaks if the host is able to provide it.
  • Flipcharts, markers, post-it notes (colored by team) are needed for each of the 6-7 groups, plus one set for the instructor.
  • Water throughout, breakfast, lunch, mid-morning beverage break, mid-afternoon snack & beverage break should be provided.
Gemba Walks *
Shingo Workshops require at least TWO workplace (Gemba) visits by the teams participating to practice assessment, questioning, and analytical reporting. This typically means that someone from the host site should be present to organize (virtually)/escort (in-person) the teams to and from the Gemba sites. In addition, host teams should be ready to receive the participants teams.
