Public Speaking by Activate to Captivate
EIGHT-WEEK COMMUNICATION CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Based on acting fundamentals, participants will practice the techniques that top speakers utilize to craft dynamic and compelling presentations. In eight sessions participants will learn:
- How to overcome self-consciousness
- Turn passive presentations into active ones
- Use vocal variety to breathe life into a performance
Proven effective, these techniques are a valuable asset in meetings, job interviews, and research presentations. The communication certificate program, designed specifically for non-actors, is open to graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
There are two sections of the certificate program planned for winter quarter 2020.
Session A is on Tuesdays from 9:30am-11:30am and begins on January 14th.
Session B is on Wednesdays from 9:30am-11:30am and begins on January 15th.
Both sessions continue weekly for 8 weeks.
Attendance is mandatory at all 8 sessions.
The instructor, Bri McWhorter has an MFA in Acting from UC Irvine, a BA in Theater from UC Berkeley and is the founder of the communications company, Activate to Captivate. She is the presentation coach for UC Irvine’s Grad Slam, AGS Symposium, and the GPS-BIOMED Pitch competition.
