The Michigan Afterschool Association Spring 2020 conference draws between 400 and 500 youth development professionals from across the state of Michigan. The conference will be held Friday, May 15th, 2020 at the Bavarian Inn, Frankenmuth, Michigan.

Help shape the conversation at the MAA Conference. We are accepting creative and diverse workshop proposals that highlight the latest educational trends, promising practices, quality programming, innovative ideas, research, and activities to support our global community of in and out-of-school time educators.

Each presenter must complete and submit this Call for Presenters form by December 22, 2019. All presentations must be consistent with the National Afterschool Association’s (NAA) ten core competencies and the Youth Program Quality Intervention and Assessment. For more information on the NAA core competencies please visit and

MAA is requesting that all presentations focus on one or more of these NAA core competencies:
1.Trauma Informed Care
2. Cultural Awareness and Agility
3. Program Planning and Development
4. Youth Engagement
5. Professional Development/leadership
6. Family, School, and Community Relations
7. School to Prison Pipeline

MAA also has identified these areas as a priority: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM); Social Emotional Learning (SEL); and trauma-informed care. Finally, MAA will give priority to presentations that use a “theory to practice” approach by providing participants with a brief overview of the theory behind the topic, followed by hands-on learning activities to engage participants.

Proposals will be accepted through December 22, 2019. The Professional Development committee will review proposals to ensure high quality workshops are provided to conference attendees. Selections will be made by January 31, 2020 at which time presenters will be notified.

All presentations proposals must be submitted using this form. Please be as specific as possible.
