Yinghua Gmail:Yinghua Academy assigns a school Gmail to each Middle School student beginning in 5th grade. The Gmail is for school purposes only and follows a specific format: the student’s formal first name, followed by a 5-digit number, which is their student ID (e.g. firstname56789@yinghuaacademy.org). We want to remind you that we monitor student communication to prohibit inappropriate use and access to objectionable material. To ensure security, we recommend that students change their password every year using our password generator. Additionally, the IT Department may perform random checks. While we make every effort to prevent inappropriate use, we recognize that it is not always possible. We need your partnership in ensuring appropriate use of these technologies. Please be advised that the Yinghua Gmail will be suspended if any violation occurs.
Laptop:We are excited to remind you that we have been offering 1-on-1 laptops for middle school students for the past two years. Starting this fall, we will be implementing annual fees for the laptops, allowing your child to keep their laptop after graduation. This new policy is designed to encourage students to take care of their laptops and prevent vandalism, as well as help cover the cost of the laptop and its maintenance.
The proposed annual fees are as follows:
- Incoming 8th graders (HP 840G3 w/6th Gen CPU, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD) - $200
- Incoming 7th graders (HP 840G3 w/6th Gen CPU, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD) - $100
- Incoming 6th graders (HP 840G3 w/6th Gen CPU, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD) - $67
- Incoming 5th graders (HP 840G3 w/6th Gen CPU, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD) - $50
Please note that we also offer a no-annual-fee option, which allows students to use our school laptops that have similar performance. However, in case of significant repairs, such as keyboard or screen replacements, we will charge $100, which will be assessed to the student who checked out the laptop or caused the damage.
We want to remind parents that the laptops are only allowed to be used at school and cannot be taken home until graduation. Upon graduation, we will unlock the laptop, and your child will become the administrator of the laptop. Please note that if there is a major repair, the vendor may replace the laptop with a different but compatible model. Additionally, we cannot allow students to bring their own laptops, as we cannot manage those laptops, and they may cause liability issues.
Cellphone:Please note that according to the Student and Family Handbook, Middle School students are required to follow the "Away for the Day" policy regarding cellphones. If a student does bring a cellphone to school, they may only use it before or after school and should keep it silenced in their locker during school hours. Students are not allowed to send or receive calls or text messages during school hours for any reason. If a student needs to call their parents during the school day, they may request a pass to the Health Office where a short phone call may be made. Any cellphones seen during school hours will be confiscated by staff and given to the Student Behavior and Family Liaison. The student may retrieve the device at the end of the suspension period.
Suspension:If a student's Yinghua account, laptop, cellphone or any other item is confiscated, it will be given to the Student Behavior and Family Liaison. The length of the suspension period will depend on the frequency of the offense, as listed below:
- First offense: 1 day
- Second offense: 7 days
- Third offense: 1 year
Please note that repeated offenses may result in additional consequences, such as a meeting with parents, suspension from school, or even expulsion. We ask for your cooperation in enforcing this policy for the safety and academic success of all students.
