The current Student Activities Fee is $11. The last fee increase was in 1999 which raised from $10 to $11. The Student Activities fee pays for: - Free food & refreshments at on campus events like: A.S. Visibility, Athletics Fair, Finals Frenzy, New Student Welcome, & Pizza with the President - Scholarships and student achievement ceremonies - Funding appropriations received by campus clubs/organizations - Covers the cost for student conferences and travel - Use of Student Life Center gaming equipment, funding student assistants, and short-term staffing - Student Life Center equipment and equipment maintenance - Supplies for posters such as banner paper, paints, poster enlarger, and lamination for club promotion - Transfer college tours and services - Leadership development at Fall Leadership Conference in Lake Arrowhead and Cultural Conversation workshops
Associated Students (A.S.) serves as stewards and representatives of the Mt. SAC student population. With the new 3 story Student Center being built which contains a Multicultural Center, extended hours of operation, separate club storage, student kitchen, Student Services offices, study and overall larger square footage leading, A.S. anticipates an increase in student engagement activities. Costs to provide equitable funding for students, clubs, organizations, and campus programs not funded by the College, have increased over the past 4 years. As it stands the current Student Activities Fee does not efficiently cover the current cost of A.S. requests and it is forecasted with the increase student activities that the Student Activities Fee of $11 will not be sufficient. A.S. believes that an adjustment to $15 will help provide a healthy budget to support over 60,000 students that attend Mt.SAC and provide adequate funding for the proposals and appropriations A.S. receives.
