What is CAN DO?
A network and community of change agents, leaders, and activists ages 14-19 building social justice in the Central Coast
CAN DO! supports youth in visioning and organizing for social justice in their schools and communities by providing:
o a healing and learning space where young people can share knowledge and support each other
o training and community service opportunities to build your skills in dismantling oppression
o Intergenerational mentorship, support, and solidarity
What is the CAN DO! Organizing Team?
The CAN DO! Organizing Team is composed of 20-25 CLI and Talking in Class graduates ages 15-19 from Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
Being part of the Organizing Team is a unique opportunity to work with a diverse group of young people committed to social justice as you build your own organizing, leadership, and social skills.
Organizing Team Responsibilities:
• Creating welcoming and safe spaces for CAN DO! events
• Facilitating CAN DO! Sessions & Regional meetings
• Representing CAN DO! in school and community events
• Support members in organizing and action plans
Being on the CAN DO! Organizing Team is a 12-15 hour a month commitment
until June 2018. Community service hours available based on school policy.
***Facilitation training to guide discussions around issues of oppression, provided by Just Communities and will prepare you to facilitate for CLI, Talking in Class and other programs and workshops.
***Organizing and leadership training by Just Communities and other organizations and community leaders.
*** Support space and network to build community of change agents.
*** Workshops on Mesoamerican art, science, and mathematics through Just Communites' Nepan Tiahui program.
*** Representing Just Communities CAN DO! at local, statewide, and national conferences and events.
ALL APPLICANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND AN ALL DAY CAN DO! RETREAT IN THE FALL . Transportation within the Central Coast will be provided.
