Rochester Early Music Festival Collaboration Concert: Call for Translators!

In collaboration with the 2019 ALTA conference "Sight and Sound," the Rochester Early Music Festival (REMF) offers a concert of early vocal music performed by chamber choir Musica Spei. Musical selections will be presented as original poetic text, sung text, and in new translation. We invite ALTA translators to contribute translations of texts in some of the following languages selected from Musica Spei's repertoire: Medieval French, Medieval Latin, German, Old Church Slavonic, Georgian, Swedish, Dutch/Flemish, and Polish. The concert will take place on Friday, November 8, at 7:00pm, after the ALTA Awards Ceremony (venue TBA, walking distance from the Hyatt Regency Rochester).

The Rochester Early Music Festival (REMF) celebrates the greater Rochester area's rich culture of Early Music performance. With an annual festival featuring up to 8 days of concerts, recitals, collaborations, and interactive events, the REMF brings to life the music of long past. This special repertoire includes instrumental, solo vocal, and choral music for modern and antiquated instruments, with most compositions originating between the 15th and 18th centuries. Festival offerings are largely offered free of charge or at a nominal price in order to welcome as many members of the community as possible.

Let us know you're interested in participating as a translator by filling out the following form by Monday, June 17. Once responses are gathered, Musica Spei will select the final program and forward texts to the translators by the end of June. Texts range in length, but seldom exceed 4 verses with a refrain, or approximately 3/4 page of poetic text.

Please join us for this exciting collaboration highlighting the "sound" of early texts set to early music!

Deadline to express interest and let us know the language(s) you translate from: Monday, June 17.
