Working at Our Rinks

Please read the following information about the available part-time positions at our rinks and our requirements for employment.

Hockey, figure skating or rink experience is ideal, but not required for some positions. Training is provided. Positions can be permanent or summer seasonal.


CONSIDER BEFORE YOU APPLY - Many shifts are weeknights and weekends. Shifts may end after midnight due to event or rink closing demands. Physical labor, including cleaning, is required in nearly all positions. The rink is often busy, fast-paced and can be stressful.

Descriptions of Part-Time Positions *
  • Food & Beverage - Provide service to Bar and Grill/Tavern customers. Bartending duties (if over 18 years old - PIH; if over 21 years old - XIC), POS and cash handling. Prepare menu items using commercial fryers, ovens and grills. Pay rates vary by location.

  • Customer Service & Rink Operations - Manage admissions and point-of-sale operations for rink events. Provide customer service for Public Skating, Hockey and Figure skating events. Serve as on-ice skate guard to ensure safety and compliance with rink rules (skating or hockey experience is recommended). $12-15/hour.

  • Hockey Scorekeeper - Operate rink scoreboard for game time, goals and penalties. Maintain SportsEngine player and team stats. Announce goals, assists and penalties. Play music between games, during game intermissions and during stoppages in play. Hockey and/or scorekeeping experience is required. $13-15/hour.

  • Facility Staff - Drive ice resurfacing machine and operate edging equipment. Monitor and maintain refrigeration plant components. Operate and maintain commercial cleaning equipment. Use of power and hand tools to complete repairs and projects. Experience driving machinery is required. $15-18/hour.

  • Coaching/Instructional Staff - Provide on-ice training and coaching to figure skaters and hockey players of all ages and ability levels. Hockey or figure skating experience is required. Pay rates vary by location.

Availability to Work *
Our primary hiring needs for the business generally revolve around weekend events.
  • Candidates that have full weekend availability (which includes Fridays, Saturdays AND Sundays) will be considered first when filling open positions.
  • Weeknight availability is a bonus, but does not replace the required weekend availability.
  • Availability does not guarantee scheduling or mean you will be scheduled for each day/night.
  • All shifts are assigned based on the needs for a given weekend and could vary from week to week.
Part-Time Scheduling *
Part-time employees at PIH and XIC are only scheduled during specific times each day due to programming and customer traffic.

Typical windows a part-time employee can expect to be scheduled at Pineville Ice House can include:
  • Monday through Thursday: Can begin as early as 4:30 p.m. and end as late as 1 a.m.
  • Friday: Can begin as early as 1:30 p.m. and end as late as 1 a.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Can begin as early as 10 a.m. and end as late as 1 a.m.
Typical windows a part-time employee can expect to be scheduled at Extreme Ice Center can include:
  • Monday through Friday: Can begin as early as 10 a.m. and end as late as 2 a.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Can begin as early as 7 a.m. and end as late as 2 a.m.
Some other notes about shifts:
  • Some Facility Staff shifts end at 2 a.m. or later.
  • In most cases, employees can expect shift lengths to range from 4 to 8 hours.
  • Employees can be scheduled up to 4 or 5 days per week, based on availability and performance.
Holiday Season Expectations *
Both of the rinks are extremely busy during the holiday season from mid-November through mid-January. We rely on our staff to maintain our standard of service through these busier times.

Most employees are hired with the expectation that they will be available to work several shifts per week during this time, which can include Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
