Bloomington Creative Glass Center Apprenticeship Program Application
BCGC’s apprenticeship program allows people interested in glass blowing to get the chance to learn the art on the job while working with experienced glass blowers. As an apprentice you would join our team and help us create the 1000+ blown glass pumpkins for our annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch, held each year in October.
The apprenticeship program is open to anyone who has already volunteered at BCGC for at least 4 hours.
Once accepted into the program apprentices must attend a mandatory two hour apprentice training to familiarize themselves with the glass blowing studio, understand the dangers and safety involved, and to learn rudimentary glass blowing skills. Apprentice trainings are held four times a year.
After attending training, apprentices are expected to sign up for 24 hours of glass blowing volunteer work in a six month period. In addition to learning as you assist, hours spent helping with glass production count towards earning a free glass class (valued at $60 per hour). Our pumpkin crews are 3 hours each and we schedule 7-8 crews per month that you can choose from.
The apprenticeship program requires a commitment of time and energy. If you do not feel you want to commit please take a look at our weekend classes for other blowing opportunities.
Not all applicants will be accepted into the apprenticeship program. Admittance depends on available space, physical ability, and ability to commit the time.
