About AVID
Before completing your application, please read the class description, student goals, responsibilities, and requirements below.
What is AVID?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program designed for students who require academic and organizational assistance to meet their goal of attending and graduating from a four-year university. AVID students have the potential to succeed in Honors and Advanced Placement courses in high school, but often need academic support to handle the rigorous coursework. The AVID class, held within the regular school day, provides support, academic monitoring, and peer and college tutoring. The core curriculum includes WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) strategies, which focus on the writing process, Socratic questioning, collaborative learning, and critical reading – all skills required to excel at the university level. AVID is not a one-hour daily independent study hall.
What are AVID student goals?
---> Academic success in college-preparatory courses.

---> Successful completion of college eligibility requirements.
