Question Submission Guidelines
Questions should strive to accomplish these purposes:
- Define a candidate’s position on issues relevant to the office being sought.
- Learn about the process a candidate uses to formulate a position or make a decision.
- Determine a candidate’s knowledge, background, and skills relative to the office sought.
- Attempt to gain information and not simply make a statement.
Questions must NOT be:
- about personal matters not related to the elective position.
- unclear or vague, hostile, antagonistic, belligerent.
- friendly, supportive or gratuitous.
Note that:
- It is our intention, in good faith, to select questions that represent the interests expressed by the voters.
- Questions used will focus on the future and not be based on hindsight.
- Questions used will be on subjects relevant to this forum or election race.
- Questions that are of a personal nature, embarrassing, hostile, or unclear in intent will not be asked.
- Questions used will be addressed to all candidates at a forum.
- Questions may be consolidated or edited by LWV Rochester.
- The moderator will make the final selection of questions asked.
