The Literary is proud to support local authors!
We prefer to give priority to authors who are local, and/or whose books appeal to local interests, although we will review all books submitted. Selections will be made based on our experience with the bookstore's inventory, customer base, and sales history. The Literary reserves the right to refuse to carry a book for any reason.
Authors interested in having their books carried by The Literary are required to fill out the following form. By submitting this form, the author is agreeing to The Literary’s terms, which are as follows:
- Books bought directly from the Author will be purchased at a rate of 35% off the retail price. For example, if a book is $12.00 retail, we will purchase it at $7.80 (For reference, the wholesale percentage through most book distributors is typically 40% - 46%).
The Literary will purchase no more than 2 copies of a book that has been approved in the first order.
Authors will be paid for their books via check upon receipt of the books.
The Literary will be in contact with the Author to reorder books at their discretion.
The form must be 100% completed in order for a book to be considered for purchase.
Books will be displayed in The Literary’s Local Author section.
Authors are responsible for marketing their own books.
Books must also meet the following requirements. If an Author’s book does not meet all of these requirements please do not apply: Printed and bound spine, preferably displaying the title and the author name (no spiral binding).
Paperback, hardcover, board, or equivalent cover displaying the title and author name.
13-digit International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and bar code.
The Literary will not accept books with AI generated content. This includes written content, illustrations, and covers. If an Author's work contains AI generated content, please do not apply.
All communications will take place via email at specialorders@literarybookbar.com. If an Author's book is approved, The Literary will email to place an order. If an Author does not receive a response within a month of submission, unfortunately that means The Literary is unable to stock their title.
