This field experience takes place for 6 days at the
Columbia Breaks Fire Interpretive Center (US-97 Alt, Entiat, WA).
Dates for this year are: Oct. 8 & 9 and Oct. 15-18, 2024. All instructors are expected to be at Columbia Breaks by 8:15 a.m. to help set up learning stations and will be done by 2 p.m. Each instructor teaches at the same station all day. Staff training will take place before the field experience at the Columbia Breaks Fire Interpretive Center (date & time TBD).
Learning Stations are:
Ecology 1- Students learn about how plants meet their needs in a Ponderosa Pine Ecosystem
Ecology 2- Students learn how the health of a forest can be determined by comparing its current species make-up & structure to its past species make-up & structure.
Matchstick Forest- Students design & conduct an experiment to investigate how slope & the density of trees affect fire spread.
