Sovereign Hope Church: Baptism Application

Baptism is a special moment in your life as you take the opportunity to follow Jesus Christ in obedience and proclaim to the world your new life with Him (Matthew 28:16-20).

Water baptism is an outward sign to others of the work that has been done in your life. While baptism does not save you, nor does it secure your salvation, it does give you the opportunity to publicly declare your allegiance to Jesus Christ and identify with His church. By being baptized, you are saying, “I am committed to following Jesus Christ for the rest of my life.”

    What is Baptism?

Scripture teaches us that the act of baptism symbolizes the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus (Romans 6:14). It is designed to be a picture of the salvation that has already taken place in the life of a believer (Acts 2:37-41). Baptism shows to others the forgiveness and cleansing that took place when you confessed your sins to Christ and were cleansed by His blood. (I John 1:7) Just as Jesus died, was buried and rose again, you too have died to your sin and have been raised to walk in new life with Jesus (Romans 6:1-4).

    Your Testimony

Because baptism is meant to be a picture of your salvation, it is important that others also hear the story of your salvation. At Sovereign Hope your baptism will be accompanied by an opportunity for you to share your testimony before your baptism. Your testimony is your personal account of the work Jesus has done in your life. Sharing your testimony to the church will also give you the chance to thank those who were instrumental in you coming to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.
