A State of the Art Performance Space in the heart of Camden - A Theatre for All
Acland Burghley School is currently working alongside Camden Council to refurbish the exterior of our Grade 2 listed Assembly Hall, making it warm, dry and fit for purpose. In addition, we have begun work building a professional standard kitchen and food technology classroom adjacent to the main hall. The next stage of the refurbishment will return the interior of the hall to its former glory; a state-of-the-art performance space to inspire learning and creativity in our students and the local community.
When the hall was designed in 1966, it was considered to be at the forefront of theatre design, and the opportunities it provided to students gave birth to the school’s reputation for creativity and the performing arts. However, as the years went by, the hall fell into a state of disrepair, not only limiting its use by the student body but also eroding a key piece of the school’s identity.
Fortunately, we have already been able to enlist some great help with the project, working with world-renowned theatre architects Haworth Tompkins on a feasibility study. If completed, their proposal would see the hall become one of the most versatile and high-tech theatre spaces in London, with innovative new staging, seating, lighting and sound.
As you can imagine, trying to bring this phoenix back from the ashes will be no easy task. In order to support our next funding bid we need to reach out to as many people as we can across the local community, from students and parents to businesses and professional artists.
This survey will help us to find out who would like to see the interior of the hall redeveloped, who it might benefit in future, and who can help us generate funding to put the plan into action. Whether it is a donation, an idea for a fundraising activity, a potential partnership, or if you think you know a group that would like to use the hall itself, then we want to hear from you. Please leave your email when prompted below to find out more about how you can get involved.
The survey should take no longer than five minutes to complete.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Acland Burghley School and the Acland Burghley School Trust
