At Kids Greening Taupō we hope to have all Taupō children learning about and taking action for our native plants and animals. We aim to connect young people to nature and to green our town!
If you are a Taupō youth (aged 7-18), you are welcome to apply for a position on one of our 2025 Kids Greening Taupō Student Leadership Team(s). The Student Leadership programme is an extra-curricular activity run by the Kids Greening Taupō education coordinators.
Opportunities and activities will likely be offered on
Tuesday afternoons/evenings. However, due to the variety of activities offered and the need to bring in outside experts, some sessions may end up on different days or with different timing. There will be a range of trips and events offered in weekends too. We do not expect students to attend everything. In fact, some opportunities will have limited numbers or only be offered to selected students/ages/teams. All changes will be communicated in a timely manner.
We will start with
three mandatory sessions on Tuesday afternoons in Term 1. These are to teach our students about KGT, why we do what we do, the basic skills that they will need, and to help create a sense of community with the other leaders. Students who attend these sessions will be offered the other opportunities during the year.
We have 8 weekend community planting events on during the winter. There is an expectation that student leaders attend at least 2 of these, as the plantings are a central part of our kaupapa.
Students will need to make their own way to all meetings via parent/caregiver transport and supervision. If there is an extenuating circumstance and transport is needed to attend some meetings, please contact us as we may be able to make arrangements.
If you require any help in completing this application form please contact Rachel at
Rachel@greeningtaupo.org.nz or 0211668332.
Applications close 14th Feb 2025. Teams will be chosen in the following week and students told whether they have been successful by 21st February 2025 at the latest.
*Note: After filling in this form, students must email us their answers to these questions. They could type a reply, draw a picture, make a short video or poster, or create a slideshow to answer these questions.
