Learning loss in the Netherlands
Help us predict where primary school students stand in spring 2021, one year after initial school closures. We will investigate this next and are curious about your best guess.

In the Netherlands, schools closed for 8 weeks in spring 2020. Engzell, Frey, and Verhagen estimate that this led to a drop in performance of 3 percentile points (pp) or 0.08 standard deviations (SD) immediately after school re-openings in May 2020.

Since then, students have mostly attended regularly, but a second school closure took place between 16 December 2020 and 7 February 2021. This lasted for 7.5 weeks, of which 2 weeks occurred over Christmas break.
