The Spiritual Growth and Development (SGD) program empowers youth to explore themselves and the world from a Unitarian Universalist perspective.
At the heart of our Spiritual Growth and Development (SGD) Program is the idea that children have an innate spirituality that we can nurture within the context of a loving and supportive community. We do this by creating classrooms where adults and children can learn from each other, build strong relationships, and create a safe space to explore life’s biggest questions. Each class uses curricula that help children understand the building blocks of spirituality in age-appropriate ways, using the 7 Unitarian Universalist Principles as a framework.
This year, Nursery and Preschool will be offered during both services (9:30am and 11:30am). All other grade level classes (K-12) will be offered at 11:30am ONLY. Children and youth will be placed in the following cohorts: K/1st grade, 2nd/3rd grade, 4th/5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education, 9th grade Coming of Age, 10th-12th grade Young Religious UUs (YRUU). If we can recruit enough teachers, we will also offer elementary OWL starting in January (included grades TBD). If you have any special requests for class placements, or if you have questions or concerns about the program, please contact Stella Anderson, Director of Spiritual Growth and Development, at stella@uuaa.org.
