Milford Schools Start Time Survey
This survey will be open from September 17, 2018 through October 19, 2018. **We are extending the survey through Thursday, October 25, 2018**

A public forum will be held on October 3, 2018 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the Milford High School Auditorium for anyone who wishes to share feedback in person with the committee. If you know of a community member who prefers to answer this survey in paper form, hardcopies will be available at each of the school offices, at the SAU 40 office, and at Wadleigh Memorial Library.

The Milford School Board formed a committee as a response to constituent requests to look at the possibility of revising the start times of our schools based on mounting research on the sleep needs of adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics released a position statement which states, "The AAP urges middle and high schools to aim for start times that allow students to receive 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep a night. In most cases, this will mean a school start time of 8:30 a.m. or later, though schools should also consider average commuting times and other local factors."

The mission of the Milford School Start Times Committee is to collect feedback from all stakeholders in our community to determine what the best school start times are for our students and families, promoting adequate sleep habits that will benefit academic engagement and performance as well as promoting positive emotional health.

The current school start times for each of the Milford Public Schools are as follows:
--Jacques Memorial Elementary School 8:25 AM -2:45 PM
--Heron Pond Elementary School 8:40 AM - 3:00 PM
--Milford Middle School 7:35 AM - 2:10 PM
--Milford High School 7:40 AM - 2:12 PM
--Project DRIVE at Bales 7:30 AM - 2:00 PM
