Schaible Fellowship Application
To apply for a Schaible Fellowship, please follow this procedure. The deadline to apply has been extended to January 15th. Applications will be reviewed by an internal committee comprised of GI faculty from each of the discipline groups named above. Decisions will be made by late January:

1) Submit an application to UAF for the PhD program through the UAF Admissions process: https://uaf.edu/admissions/ Fellowship applicants must meet the admissions criteria for the PhD program in the discipline/department that will oversee their academic program.

2) Please submit a separate application for a Schaible Fellowship through this website, according to the instructions below. This application is separate from the regular graduate program application and is for consideration for a Schaible Fellowship only. You must also apply for graduate school through the UAF Admissions process.

3) Contact a prospective advisor from the GI who you are interested in pursuing a PhD degree with. The Schaible Fellowships are limited to students with a GI faculty mentor. Please make sure that your prospective advisor has a GI appointment before applying.

a. Your PhD degree program will be administered through one of the academic departments in one of the colleges (ie CNSM, Dept. of Physics). The Geophysical Institute hosts research faculty and joint appointment faculty who may or may not be affiliated with one of the academic departments. Please be sure to select a mentor that is GI faculty member. GI faculty and researcher profiles can be found here: https://www.gi.alaska.edu/people/researchers
b. Please also visit the research groups websites for more information about potential GI-affiliated advisors and their research: https://www.gi.alaska.edu/

4) Discuss your course of PhD research and coursework with your prospective GI-affiliated advisor and develop a plan for your PhD program.

5) Obtain a letter of support from your prospective advisor (instructions for faculty will be linked here). Your faculty mentor will submit this letter on your behalf to the Schaible Fellowships committee.
