Asynchronous Online SkillShops
You can add any of our online SkillShops (

) as an assignment in your course by importing the SkillShop from the Canvas Commons. Simply search for the course you're interested in and add the assignment to your course. Students will upload their SkillShops badge to your course to show that they completed the SkillShop. If you would like to learn more about using online SkillShops in your course, contact us:

HSU Library Basic Introductory Session: includes Using OneSearch, searching a multi-disciplinary database, and off-campus access. (If you want students to develop searching skills please plan on dedicating more than 50 minutes)
Archival research instruction: How to do archival research in a Special Collections or online. Topics include: definitions and uses of a primary sources, and overview of the Humboldt Room, how to find primary source material online. This session ends with a hands on activity in the Special Collections.
Journal Article Instruction: Includes discussion of scholarly/peer-reviewed articles, resources from the library for getting one-on-one support with research (LibGuides, Writing Studio, RHD, etc)
Source Evaluation: Includes discussion about the variety of source types, which are more scholarly or not, and how to determine if a source is right for the needs of an assignment using the CRAAP test.
Citation Management Software: Basic introduction on using Zotero or Mendeley to collect and organize citations, generate bibliographies, and export citations from library databases; plus a demonstration on how the product works with Microsoft Word.
Citation and Preventing Plagiarism: Help your students learn more about citation styles and why citation matters. This session can focus on specific citation styles (APA, Chicago, MLA, etc.), the difference between quotes and paraphrasing, and the need for in-text citation in addition to bibliography.
College Success/Metaliteracy: Focuses on skills that will help students be more successful in college including topics like time management, financial literacy, reading for college, and more.
Digital Media in the Classroom: Want to take your class project to the next level? Tap into the Digital Media Lab. Workshops can include the usage of video and audio equipment; Camtasia and Audacity production software; Microsoft, Google, and Adobe product suites; website platforms; and more...
Publishing, Copyright, or Open Access: Whether demystifying scholarly publishing, learning copyright for public-facing projects, or finding free educational resources, each of these sessions provide skills and knowledge that will benefit students in the classroom and throughout their professional life.
