Trees Matter McPherson Award Nominee Application
The Trees Matter McPherson Award honors exemplary work and extraordinary efforts to inspire and expand the Valley’s tree canopy. Applications for 2025 are due October 10th.

Since 2018, twelve individuals have received the award. View past recipients here.

Areas for consideration:

Tree Planting/Distribution/Care: recognizing individuals, organizations, or businesses that have demonstrated outstanding commitment and innovation in planting trees, restoring green spaces, and improving the urban forest.

Tree Advocacy: recognizing individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to promoting and advocating for urban forests, green infrastructure, and sustainable development practices that support tree growth.

Tree Education: recognizing individuals, educators, schools, or organizations that have developed innovative programs and initiatives that inspire and educate communities about the benefits of trees, their importance to the environment, and the ways in which they can contribute to creating a healthier, more sustainable future.

Nomination Details
Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of Trees Matter Board Members and Jim McPherson. The Award will be presented to the awardee at our Annual Mesquite Pancake Breakfast for dinner in November 2025, additional details for the event to be announced soon.

Nominations will be reviewed for the quality, breadth, and impact of the candidate’s service contributions to the tree canopy and the Phoenix metro community.  Evidence should be presented of service whose impact significantly exceeds what might normally be expected.  That impact might be on the basis of single but very important contribution, activities that have served a particularly broad community of beneficiaries, a sustained record of contributions over many years, etc.
