We, the citizens of Wisconsin, petition Governor Walker to keep his promise and stand by the criteria he laid out for casino expansion. Gambling is not good for Wisconsin’s best natural resource—her families. Studies continue to show that gambling promotes an increase in crime, contributes to the destruction of families and comes with some sizeable costs to taxpayers. In general, increasing casinos in Wisconsin is not in the best interest of our families or our state.
In addition, the proposed Kenosha Casino would be the first off-reservation casino of its kind in Wisconsin. Approving such a casino would make it very difficult to deny the next request for an off-reservation casino.
Governor Scott Walker established three criteria for approving a new casino in Wisconsin: 1. local community support for a casino; 2. consensus among Wisconsin’s 11 tribes; and 3. no net increase in gaming. The proposed Kenosha casino does not meet his three criteria.
With 22 casinos already in operation in the State of Wisconsin, access to gambling is not an issue. No one is over a two-hour drive to an existing casino.
We urge Governor Walker to keep his promise and stand by the criteria he laid out.
